Full Saturday

Today I got to do my sister-in-law's maternity session first thing.  So, it wasn't too bad out and I think the pictures turned out pretty well.  I absolutely prefer the outside ones!  Here are a "few" of my favorites.

 I did these socks.

 And this shirt.

So, yeah, that's what I spent my morning on-taking pictures and editing.  I spent awhile fixing my logo, so now it says "My Six Silly Geese Photography."
As soon as I got the kids upstairs for quiet time (which is never quiet), I read some, until Scott said they had wood putty, and he brought it over!  I only had so much time to fill in the holes and it was runny, so it didn't turn out as well as I would have liked.  Add in the fact that sanding things is one of my least favorite sounds.  Without further ado, here is what it looks like now!
 Before the paint
 After paint and drying.
My kids think it's super cool and found one of my pillows which happens to fit perfect!  I'll have to do some editing on it in pictures, but it's super sturdy!  Cecilia and Leah sat on it without a problem!  I put it up in the garage, so hopefully it stays safe there!  I was tired, so we picked up some Papa Murphy's pizza.  My kids love watching them make our pizza!
I did pretty good considering how huge and uncomfortable I am!  And the fact that Cecilia is very, very attached to me right now.  I had a few really uncomfortable Braxton Hicks that I had to breathe through tonight, but resting and watching the DIY Channel helped me sit down and take a break.  I almost packed my hospital bag, just in case I might use it in the next few weeks.  I feel like I'm getting at least a few things done everyday.  Even with trying to help my children make better decisions.  Ben thinks I don't like him when I send him to time out and Kira is having a super hard time being kind and quieter.  Poor kiddos.
Tomorrow morning I get to help Kira and Emma write their talks for church.  Fun times!

Checking off fun things on my to-do list

I made up a huge list of things I need to do, fun things to do and school things to do before Joshua is born.  At least that's my plan.  Today was a get fun things done day.  So, I ironed on letters on shirts to make cute "lil bro" shirt sets for each of my kids and my brother's kids. And I made a KU tie onesie for my KU loving sister-in-law.  See?

It's super easy to do!  You just buy the heavy duty iron on wonder under (so you don't have to sew it), iron it to the wrong side of the fabric, and cut it out.  I made stencils of the letters using cardboard, so I could trace it backwards onto the "paper."  I ironed the cotton shirt I was putting them on, then I cut them out, placed them where I wanted them (to make sure), and took the paper off.  I ironed them on and "tada!"  Just make sure and use an ink pen or pencil in order to trace on the paper, because marker seeps through.
When I was done with that and got my kids in their rooms for quiet time, I got the circular saw and my wood out.  It was my first time using a circular saw, so I was pretty nervous and wanted to make sure my kids weren't around!  I wore my safety goggles and dust mask and was ready!  I cut all of my wood pieces that I had previously marked out where to cut.  Seriously, if I wanted to make a living doing this, I would buy a table saw, so it would have been so much easier!  The base of my thumb still hurts!  Not a ton, thank goodness!  And the kids stayed in their rooms very nicely, so no one got hurt!  Phew!  I cleaned up the sawdust, which was all over my kitchen!  Fun times.  Emma and Cecilia "helped" me clean.  Emma wanted to help so bad, and there was nothing that she could do!  I felt bad, but wanted her safe way more!  I got my husband's drill out and that was pretty worthless!  I managed to get a lot of screws started with it, but for the most part I was using a plain screwdriver.  Hence the reason my palm still hurts.  Some of my cuts weren't quite right (because the saw blade is thicker than my pencil line and because I was so nervous), so it's not perfect, but I still think I did a pretty fantastic job for my first real wood project!  This is what it looks like right now.  I still need to wood putty in spaces and cover the screws and paint.  So, it's on its way.
 From the side
From the foot of the bed.
I used the tutorial from here.
She obviously knows what she's doing and has real tools.  Someday I want real tools.  I adjusted her lengths in order to make sure a sleeping baby would fit very nicely!  So, I added a couple inches in length.  I'm just excited it turned out as well as it did!  It was a long day!
I only had one real contraction and a few extended Braxton Hicks, so I'm not worried about having this baby too soon!  Which is great, since I will be doing maternity pictures for my sister-in-law tomorrow!

Thursday Tutorial: How to make those Singed Flower Bouquets!

First you cut a whole bunch of circles (they don't have to be perfect) out of satin material.  I do about three different sizes.  Just remember you will be burning the edges, so you want to make them big enough to burn the edges!
Here's the cardboard cutouts I did first to use as templates.  So you can see about how much difference you want in the sizes.
Then you burn the edges.  Since I always do a ton at a time, I use a candle.  This is a Diamond Candle and I love it!  It burns forever and smells awesome!  And it even comes with a ring in it!
This is what they look like when you burn just the edges.
Just stacking them to see how it looks.
I prefer keeping the same colors together.  So, I lined these up to see what I thought.
Here are my tons of petals I did!
This is a 3/8" ribbon, about three inches long.  You can adjust this according to what you want too.
Fold it like an awareness ribbon and put a dot of glue right there in the middle.
And then just fold it down and glue again.
See, like I said, I do things in bulk.  The USA ribbons I preferred as awareness ribbons.
 Burn the edges.
Here is one that I just glued together with extra petals.  Mainly because I have to do something quick in the middle of a longer project.
Here I am starting to put the silk circles together.  Just put some hot glue in a circle in the middle.
Here are all three glued together with a bead glued in the middle.  You can always skip the hot glue and just sew the bead in the middle and that will put them all together.
Lining them up the way I wanted.
 And adding the extra bows.
First you figure out what size elastic you want for the headband.  Cut it a tiny bit bigger and glue together.  Fabric glue works fantastic!
Glue felt onto the elastic (felt glue is awesome too).
Glue felt onto the other side.  That seals the elastic in.  Make sure you glue where you sealed the elastic in. Then you glue the silk flowers on where you want them.  Add any accessories you would like.
Here it is all glued together and on my daughter's head.  I made a ton, here are some of the other ones I made.
I made some bright sunshiney ones.
 And an animal print one.
 A ladybug inspired one.
And the patriotic ones!  My girls picked what they wanted!
Now you don't have to make headbands, you can always use these flowers to accent a shirt, skirt or dress (I did a whole bunch on a skirt).

I even made some matching ones for my little girl's shoes!  If you want to use just one, maybe more at a time, you can just glue them to a clip/barrette/brooch, or a regular plastic headband.

My "mid-week" update

The past few days have been crazy busy!  On Tuesday, we got to have lots of fun with my mom!  We went to the nice mall and the kids all got something from Payless.  Emma was wearing a pair of Kira's old shoes that she had not grown into.  Not even close, so she was walking like a clown.  Poor kiddo!  So, she was the reason we went in.  $80 later, all the kids had something.  Then they got pretzel bites and we went to Bath and Body Works.  They each got a hand sanitizer there, so they were thrilled!  Then we picked out a couple ties for my dad and headed out.  We had Chick-fil-a for lunch (a fast food favorite).  I love their chicken sandwiches and waffle fries and still remember eating there when I was little in the mall on the Gulf Coast.  After a nice nap for my mom and Cecilia, we came home.  I got to go see Snow White and the Huntsman with my sister.  She's so sweet.  Not that I liked the movie at all, but it was nice to get out (and not by myself)!  I didn't like it, because there was a ton of violence, some grossness, at least two spots where I turned my head, a very awkward beginning of a wedding night (nothing shows, it's just awkward), and no real ending.  She doesn't choose between the two guys and the movie was over two hours long!  Aaahhhh!!!!!!
Then on Wednesday morning, my mom took us to see Madagascar 3.  The kids seemed to really like it.  Except Cecilia who doesn't watch tv, so it wasn't surprising that she wasn't willing to sit and watch an hour and a half movie.  She just went in circles going up and down the stairs.  I thought it was a pretty good movie and Ben for sure did.  He had to go to the bathroom twice, and he went super fast in order to not miss anything!  My kiddos are animal fans, so this was a great movie for them!
We went back to my mom's house for an extended nap.  It's so hot out!  I even got a little nap!  Then we went to the Farm and only had forty minutes there, before they closed.  So. we watched a cow get milked, walked around some and the kids all played on the slide while Cecilia and I saw more animals in the shade.  It was incredibly hot!  105 degrees.  Sheesh!  But, the kids had fun, so it was completely worth it!

We came home (since we didn't have to rescue poor Scott) and I made turkey burgers.  They were yummy!  I brought Kira and Ben to church, thinking that Ben had Cub Scouts.  He didn't.  They don't have Cub Scouts during the Summer.  Good to know!  So, I got the rest of the stuff  I needed for my projects.  We picked Kira up and went home.  Scott and I talked for a long time about how things are going.  Then I got a few things done before going to bed super late.  But, I got a load of laundry done!
